| Change for the better, Hypnosis has been used to help with therapy since ancient times. Historical records from Egypt, Greece, China, and Rome refer to hypnotic states being used in healing, and in modern times the use of hypnosis in a complementary role alongside mainstream medical techniques has become commonplace.
The hypnotic trance is a very misunderstood state of mind. We actually go into hypnosis every single day, usually without noticing that we did so. Whenever our conscious attention is diverted inside, into our own thoughts, instead of focusing outwards onto the real world. Whenever we lose ourselves in a good, absorbing book, or drive miles along a familiar road without being fully aware of it, we have gone into hypnosis - quite safely and naturally! In spite of media mistruths about hypnosis, it is impossible to hypnotise anybody without their permission and knowledge, or to make them do anything against their will. Because of this, every hypnotherapeutic process will always be a co-operative one, with the therapist and client sharing responsibility for success. |
